走向商业化,美加州理工非晶态金属3D打印专利获批

3D打印产业化网讯:非晶态金属(金属玻璃)又称非晶态合金, 它既有金属和玻璃的优点, 又克服了它们各自的弊病.如玻璃易碎, 没有延展性.金属玻璃的强度高于钢, 硬度超过高硬工具钢, 且具有一定的韧性和刚性, 所以, 人们赞扬金属玻璃为“敲不碎、砸不烂”的“玻璃之王”。

非晶态金属集众多优异性能于一身,如高强度、高硬度、耐磨以及耐腐蚀 等。这些优异的性能使其在航空航天、汽车船舶、装甲防护、精密仪器、电力、 能源、电子、生物医学等领域都存在广泛的应用前景。近日,美国加州理工大学通过增材制造技术来获得非晶态金属的专利获批,据3D科学谷的市场研究,该技术已与国际上著名的几家大型企业开始展开商业合作对话。

专利名称:systems and methods for fabricating objects including amorphous metal using techniques akin to additive manufacturing

非晶态金属的特点是其无序的原子结构,被实现为高效的工程材料,不仅比传统金属硬得多,一般比陶瓷材料更硬。也相对耐腐蚀,并且具有良好的导电性。

然而,非晶态金属的制造是充满挑战的过程,特别是通常需要高于其熔化温度,并迅速冷却,使其避免结晶,从而形成的非晶态金属玻璃。制造过程需要非凡的冷却速度,并限制了它们可以形成的厚度,因为较厚的部分很难被迅速冷却。

加州理工大学制造非晶态金属的方法为:将第一层金属合金表面高温熔融;迅速冷却这层熔融金属合金,凝固形成非晶态金属的第一层;然后在此基础上进行下一层的加工。在这个过程中使用的是“喷涂技术”应用至每一层,包括等离子喷涂、电弧喷涂等方法。“喷涂技术”可以使用的原材料包括:金属丝和金属粉末。根据3D科学谷的市场研究,该“喷涂技术”为DED直接能量沉积3D打印技术。随着加州理工大学的此项专利获批,该技术正式进入商业化阶段。无独有偶,非晶态金属进入商业化成为2017年金属增材制造界的热门话题。此前,EOS还投资非晶态金属3D打印初创企业Exmet,Exmet是从2016年起与德国材料巨头Heraeus集团合作研发非晶态金属3D打印技术,与加州理工大学所使用的DED技术不同的是,Exmet在工厂中配备了一台EOS M 290 金属3D打印机,用于制造高性能的非晶态金属零部件。

在国内,大连交通大学研究非晶态金属的制造已久,还通过采用熔体喷铸的方法制备了板状非晶合金Zr55Al10Ni5Cu3。大连理工大学通过真空操作环境中主要利用将工作台外侧设置冷却液工作池,保证所制备的金属构件始终处于较低温度,提高金属构件熔池附近的温度梯度,从而快速高效地扩散掉金属构件熔池附近热量,进而避免晶化的发生。
